Lea Michele: I Was Told I Wasn't Pretty Enough to Be Famous

Lea Michele: I Was Told I Wasn't Pretty Enough to Be Famous

Looking at this gorgeous photo of Lea Michele, it's hard to believe that the Glee star could ever get anything but praise for her appearance. But the actress says that, as she tried to break into the business, she had to endure plenty of criticism.

"How many managers told me, 'Get a nose job. You’re not pretty enough?'" she recalls in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar. "But I proved them wrong."

Now one of the biggest stars in Hollywood -- and a soon-to-be McKinley High graduate -- Michele says she's barely scratched the surface of what she wants to achieve.

"I don’t stop," she says of her work ethic. "It’s my nature. People have to tell me to slow down. I plan on playing every role on Broadway … I want to do movies, make music. Glee is only the beginning."

Talk about motivated!

And for those who mistake her ambition for smugness, the 24-year-old says she and her castmates are just embracing their opportunities.

"People have to remember this is all new for us," she explains. "We’re all reasonably young … I’ve learned some lessons. But people are going to say what they want to say. I know who I am, and I’m not perfect."

More and more we're realizing that there are stunning similarities between Michele and her Glee character Rachel Berry. And though Rachel is often misunderstood, she's simply driven by her dreams. Sound familiar?

Faye Dunaway Bashes "Slum Landlord" Over Eviction Suit

Faye Dunaway Bashes "Slum Landlord" Over Eviction Suit

Yesterday the New York Times revealed that an Upper East Side landlord had filed a lawsuit against Oscar-winning Network actress Faye Dunaway, claiming that she did not actually live in the rent-stabilized Manhattan apartment under her name, and that he was seeking to evict her. Dunaway, however, has a different story to tell.

"I have not been evicted," Dunaway, 70, said in one of three voicemails left for the Times. "I have chosen to leave because of the state of the apartment, and also because I am spending less and less time in New York."

Dunaway says that she decided to vacate the apartment because the landlord, Henry Moses Jr., "refused to paint the house, and bugs were everywhere." In essence, she said, "He is a slum landlord. He has no class."

Moses fired back: "I have no record of her asking for it to be painted, and the fact that bugs are everywhere is nonsense because we have an exterminating service that comes by once a month and tenants can ask in addition to that for special visits."

The apartment in question is a one-bedroom walk-up in an old tenement building on East 78th Street, which may seem like an odd address for a rich and famous movie star. The monthly rent is $1,048.72, drastically lower than any other rent for an equivalent apartment in the same neighborhood. Rent stabilization requires that the apartment be the tenant's primary residence, and Dunaway admittedly spends most of her time in California.

According to The New York Times, Dunaway was given the apartment by her mentor, playwright William Alfred, who died in 1999. Dunaway had been working on organizing Alfred's possessions and donating them to Brooklyn College, where Alfred went for his undergraduate education. Dunaway contacted Brooklyn College about making more donations as recently as last week.

But Moses' lawyer Craig Charie claims that, despite Dunaway's statement that she has given up the apartment, the actress has yet to return the keys to the apartment and still appears to be storing some of her belongings there. Moses saved some of Dunaway's voicemail messages where she offers to return the keys, and also informs Moses that she has arranged for a moving company to come and pick up some papers left behind.

"As of now, I don't have legal possession; she hasn't put a thing in writing," says Charie. "What if she goes in there and later claims, 'I had the Hope Diamond there and my Oscar in there and you took it'?"

Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner Take Violet Out To A Party

One of our favourite families – the Affleck-Garners were spotted strolling along the sidwalks of Brentwood. Noticeably missing was little Seraphina although I’m assuming she was probably napping it out at home. Ben Affleck has been working quite a bit … Continue reading

Now that school's out and folks are slathering on the sunscreen, we figured it was time to take the temperature of the annual Summer Jam Sweepstakes — the race to dominate the airwaves (and your tanning playlist) during the long, hot months of the year.

So last week, we published our initial rankings in the race for the Summer Jam crown, a list that was topped by Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," with Pitbull's "Give Me Everything" and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" following close behind. A whole host of other big-name stars — like Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Adele, to name just a few — also made the cut, along with some dark-horse candidates (like Foster the People, Maroon 5 and David Guetta) who are determined to make this competition close.

Of course, our rankings had you talking too — in fact, the conversation in our comments section got so huge (we even heard from a Hall of Fame third baseman!) that we've decided to spotlight some of the best back-and-forth right now. What's your pick for the Song of Summer 2011? Here's what you had to say:

"This has been Katy's decade so far! She made pop music fun again." — Tuffy Luvvy

" 'Lighters' by Eminem, Royce and Bruno Mars all the way, baby! It's a long-shot, I know. I think Katy Perry will get it, but you never know." — lilbittaflava

"I like Katy, but 'I Wanna Go' from Britney sounds more like a summer song." — Aaron

"Britney Spears! 'I Wanna Go' just makes my summer great!" — Melissa Goulart

"Britney Spears all the way! 'I Wanna Go' all the way! I'm still in love with Pitbull's 'Give Me Everything,' and his album is amazing. Nicki Minaj's 'Super Bass' is sick, love it!" — RyanJaggerz

" 'The Edge of Glory' is a glorious pop anthem-masterpiece, no need for it to be crowned as a 'jam.' Adele's 'Rolling' is heart-touching, breathtaking and also a masterpiece." — Spyros Venturis

" 'Moves Like Jagger' by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera is amazing!" — SuperZonic Jbsz

"Oh I couldn't believe when I saw them, thank you so much MTV for putting them on the list ... I love them, talking about of course FOSTER THE PEOPLE YEAHHHHHHH." — hotalejandro

" 'Tonight Tonight' by Hot Chelle Rae! I could party to that every day of the summer." — WhatShouldIDo?

"You guys forgot about New Boyz ft. Chris Brown, 'Better With the Lights Off,' and Lupe Fiasco ft. Trey Songz, 'Outta My Head.' " — booklady

"All these songs have that 'I've heard it all before' sound to them. Nothing special about any of the songs on the list. A lot of the 'artists' on this list would be better off working a mop at a Waffle House. It's Kanye's fault." — Mike Schmidt
